KaMUstahan, an orientation and and introductory dinner held to welcome the freshmen of the UP College of Medicine. KaMUstahan is one of the events that sisses look forward to, as it not only gives the sisses the chance to meet the new batch of applicants and freshmen, but it also gives the freshmen a glimpse of the amazing experience that is being Mu. Sisses far and wide come together and the event is customarily graced by many of our distinguished alumnae. Four notable alumni enlighten everyone as they expound on the pillars of Sisterhood, Service, Leadership and Scholarship.

Freshmen Dine out

The Mu Sigma Phi Sorority conducts lunch or dinner dates for the ladies of the College’s freshman class with the aim of introducing the sorority’s pillars and ideals. Undergraduate and alumni sisses interact with the freshmen, sharing their Mu experiences and trying to impart how extraordinary it feels to be part of Mu. Several sisses explain the 4 pillars and how every Mu Sis strives to achieve the ideals founded upon those very pillars.

GenMeets

Every month, the sisses of the Mu Sigma Phi Sorority have an official assembly. The executive committee and respective committee heads update sorority on the various projects and activities. It is a meeting of minds wherein members of the sorority are encouraged to pitch-in and their share brilliant ideas.

Fiesta at the Hut

An annual tradition wherein freshmen of the UP College of Medicine are invited to have lunch at the Mu Hut. Sisses and brods gamely serve lunch and interact with the freshman class. Everyone enjoys the deliciously prepared dishes capped with bottomless dirty ice-cream for dessert. Fiesta at the Hut not only fills people’s empty stomachs with food, but it also brings joy and laughter and new memories to share!

Club Med

To cap off the activities of a successful MU week, sisses and brods come to Club Med. A celebration of the feeling of accomplishment; a place where the alumni and resident members can mingle with our undergradss. Drinks, games and party music flood the scene, where sisses can just let loose and have fun after some hectic planning. Surely, one of the MU week activities everyone looks out for!

Induction Ball

The Induction Ball is a formal evening affair wherein the newest batch of sisses is formally welcomed into the sorority. Each new sis is called to be recognized by the sorority. The newest batch swears in their loyalty to sorority and to the sorority’s ideals. Guided by their respective sponsors (ninangs), the sisses perform a ceremony that has been part of the sorority’s tradition since the very beginning.

TRP (Tao Rin Pala) dance

Tao Rin Pala or TRP is variety show held during December as part of the College’s Christmas celebration. It a variety show intended to showcase the talents of medical students and doctors alike. The Mu Sigma Phi Sorority’s involvement with TRP is usually organized by the Initiating Batch. Undergraduate and Alumnae sisses, as well the sorority’s applicants are given the chance to exhibit their performing prowess.

Siszle

May it be a costume party or a simple dinner, the sisses of the Mu Sigma Phi Sorority never fail to make events interesting. Siszle are activities held periodically for the enjoyment of the sisses. Planning and hosting of Siszles are taken over by the different batches and a wide range of activities are usually prepared. Truly events are never dull when you’re with sisters!

UPMAS (U.P. Medical Alumni Society) Homecoming

U.P. Medical Alumni Society Homecoming is a series of activities held every year during the December to welcome back UPCM’s most esteemed alumnae. The Mu Sigma Phi lends its assistance to the College as it pays homage to alumnae brods and sisses. The homecoming celebration is also a great avenue for the alumnae sisses to reconnect with each other and for the undergraduate sisses to meet their alumnae counterparts.

Sis Day

Sis Day is that one special day of the year wherein sisses from different generations get together to reaffirm their bonds of sisterhood. Special activities are laid out throughout the day for sisses.

Intern's Party

Held at the end of the academic year, the Interns’ Party is celebrated in honor of the graduating batch of sisses. It a commemoration of the challenges the almost-graduates surpassed in medical school. Sisses are treated to a night of fun and laughter, a toast to years of wonderful sisterhood.

Commitment Rights and Initiations

Commitemnt Rites and Initiations are exclusive events attended by the members of the Mu Sigma Phi Sorority as it marks the milestones of an applicant’s journey. During the said rites, sorority’s applicants reaffirm their commitment to the sorority and to the ideals it stands for. These events definitely occupy a special place in every sisses’ hearts.

Service

Mu Sigma Phi Drug Bank

Since 1942, the Mu Sigma Phi Drug Bank has been maintained to provide free medicine for the indigent patients of the Philippine General Hospital. Constantly updated and stocked, the Mu Sigma Phi Drug Bank is made up of an array of drugs usually provided by various sponsors. The drug bank contains essential medicines dispensed during the Sorority’s medical missions.

Mu Caravan

The Mu Health Caravan is dedicated to the promotion of community health that starts with the woman.  The Mu Health Caravan also recognizes the important role of the community in the promotion of child wellness, and through this move aims to equip local communities with knowledge as it has done with its Women Empowerment and Literacy through Health Education: WEALTH Campaign. The Mu Health Caravan continues to advocate health, wellness, and ultimately, knowledge-driven empowerment through a series of health lectures and medical missions held in different towns and provinces.

Medical/Surgical Missions

Well known for its service projects, the Mu Sigma Phi often conducts free clinics for the benefit of local communities. With the help from sponsors, the Sorority is able to extend its service arm to the underserved. Aside from consultations, the sorority also conducts Public Health Lectures tackling common diseases with emphasis on their prevention in the community and in the household.

Blood-Letting

The Sorority has always made a name for itself as a pioneer and trailblazer. The Mu Sigma Phi Drug Bank, established in the 1940s, is now considered as the official Philippine General Hospital Blood bank. Recurring blood drives are conducted throughout the College for the expansion of the Blood Bank.

First Friday Mass at PGH Chapel

Every first Friday of the month, a familiar group of white-clad girls sit in the front pews of the PGH chapel and acts as the choir. This is the First Friday Mass, a long held tradition of the Mu Sigma Phi Sorority. Every month, the sorority sponsors a mass and the sisses are transformed into choir members, offerers and lectors. The whole PGH community is invited to attend this special mass through the exquisitely detailed posters found all over the CM and PGH grounds.

An Ounce of Prevention: ImMUnity

Demonstrating its utmost dedication to Service, the Mu Sigma Phi Sorority conducts a series of informative lectures entitled “An Ounce of Prevention: Immunity”. A part of the sorority’s comprehensive immunization program held annually for the benefit of the University’s incoming freshmen, lectures are given to serve as a guide on adolescent and adult immunization. The series of lectures is the first phase of the sorority’s immunization program while the second phase of the immunization program aims to provide free vaccines to UP College of Medicine students and PGH health workers.

Alay sa MUsmos at Ina

Recognizing the challenges experienced by gifted children and their mothers, the Mu Sigma Phi Sorority conducts “Alay sa MUsmos at Ina”. The event aims to thank each child for making their mother’s lives extra special from the day they were born and at the same time, to thank each mother for the unconditional love and care they give their children.  A program is usually prepared for the children and their mothers and simple tokens are distributed to both mother child.

Service Month

November is the month to remember when it comes to the Service Pillar. A whole month totally devoted to commemorating the sorority’s numerous service projects. Also a time for the sorority to reaffirm its vow to serve the underserved sectors and to intensify its service projects.

MUnting KaCIyahan

MUnting KaCIyahan is an annual storytelling event organized by the Mu Sigma Phi Sorority in line with the celebration of its Service Month.  The storytelling session, held at the UP-PGH Cancer Institue (CI), is conducted for the entertainment of the children patients. Aside from storytelling, a sumptuous feast and fun games are also prepared for the patients.

Parol Para sa PGH

Every Christmas season, the Mu Sigma Phi Sorority imparts a little bit of good cheer to the children confined in the PGH Pediatrics Ward 9 and 11 through their annual “Parol Para sa PGH” project.  After the presentation of donation to the ward, a small program full of fun and laughter ensues. The patients and their respective guardians are bequeathed with festive meals and gifts are handed out to the children. The “Parol Para sa PGH” was not only established to convey the joyful message of Christmas to the patients in PGH but also to foster the spirit of service and sisterhood within the sorority.

Scholarship

Talks/Symposia

True to their commitment to the fostering of Scholarly pursuits, select brods and sisses of the Mu Sigma Phi are often called upon discuss topics of interest. The topics of these talks are often related to health and wellness. Truly matters worth pursuing!

OSCE Reviews

The OSCE review is an annual interactive review session intended to prepare the freshman class for their upcoming practical exams in Dermatology and to impart handy skills for their first encounter with a patient. Consultant sisses walks the students through the study session. The review also includes several guidelines on how to do a physical examination. This annual activity is much awaited by the freshman class and is a testament to the fraternity’s and sorority’s dedication to scholarship.

Brainstorm

Brainstorm is an inter-medical school quiz show that provides a venue for friendly-competition among medical students from different universities. Contestants are tested on their expertise on the medical sciences. The quiz show is also part of the sorority’s Scholarship week celebrations.

EKG (Excellence, Knowledge, Genius)

EKG or “Excellence Knowledge Genius” is a pre-medical quiz show conducted every year in celebration of the sorority’s Scholarship Week. The pre-medical quiz show aims not only to intellectually challenge aspiring medical students from different schools but also to promote the value of cooperation and healthy competition. This is all in line with the Sorority’s noble goal of fostering scholarship and academic excellence.
